General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
1) What other symptoms your father has? abdominal pain, swelling in legs, increase size of tummy, breathlessness, decreased appetite, jaundice?
2) Does your father has history of alcohol consumption, hepatitis-B infection or hepatitis-C infection?
3) Generally, decrease in liver size is associated with cirrhosis of liver (damage of liver tissue so liver function decrease). In cirrhosis, smooth surface of liver become very irregular, liver function decrease (cause decreased production of protein leads to collection of fluid in legs and tummy ), development of jaundice occur
4) Treatment scope for cirrhosis is wide and it depend upon severity of cirrhosis and its associated complications.
