What Is The Treatment For Dry Cough And Pain Under Ribs?

Hi, I have been unwell for the past 7 days with flu like symptoms, and have been in bed for most of the time. I have had a terrible dry cough and not brought up mucus. I was referref to the nurse at my doctors surgery on Friday who said my chest sounded clear and gave me antibiotics and a cough suppressant. I have ben up all night with crippling pains when I cough . The pain and really tender extended area seems to be to the high left of my abdomen just under my ribs. As I had a perforated duodenal ulcer a months ago I am worried that I have split something due to my violent coughing or could it be my chest or lungs. It is really tender all the time but unbearable when I cough. What shall I do, shall I go to Aand E in the morning?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Yes, you should definitely consult doctor for your symptoms.
You are having constant cough with right sided lower chest pain. This is seen in pneumonia and pleural effusion.
So better to get done chest x ray first.
Chest x ray is must to rule out these conditions.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry much.
You are mostly having musculoskeletal pain.
But first rule out lung related causes.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
