What Is The Treatment For Ear Infection?

I have had a few problems with my ears. I have had my ear looked at and had the excess (dead) skin removed as this wasn t being pushed out naturally. I am also on the waiting list for a mastroidectomy. But lately I have been having trouble hearing and now I am getting a brown waxie discharge from that ear. Is this something I should get looked at asap?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

You have been given an appointment for surgery of Mastoidectomy means there is mastoiditis which needs to be removed. In view of infection and inflammation in mastoid bone the waxy brown discharge is expected and there looks to be no emergency unless you develop any pain or swelling. Send the pus for culture and sensitivity and you will be prescribed antibiotic accordingly. Watch for any fungus. Consult your Doctor and if fungus is present then you should get anti-fungal drops also. Surgery may cure your problem. Also, ask for any nose and sinus infection and this should be treated in advance.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
