What Is The Treatment For Headache?

My mom has these ridges on the top of her head and they're very thick. You can't see them underneath the hair, but you can feel them. She's been complaining recently of some headaches too. She says she will see a doctor next week after Christmas. Is this something serious?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. These ridges over skull bone are mostly normal and occur as a result of suture fusion/moulding or age related changes. Prominence of ridges occur in few conditions which affect bone like

: Acromegaly - It occurs due to growth hormone (GH) excess. It manifests as coarsening of facial features, thick extremities, headache, broad nose, thick bones, recent onset of hypertension/diabetes mellitus.

If she is having such symptoms, consult endocrinologist. He might advise GH level, x rays of bones, MRI brain to rule out diagnosis and find out the cause. Further management will be decided after reports

: Fibrous dysplasia/osteoma - These are bony pathologies and result into deformation of bone, visible swelling, pain, bony defects. Diagnosis is confirmed by CT head and treatment requires surgical excision.

You can correlate her findings and consult doctor accordingly. Meanwhile for pain, you can give her
: Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription

Hope it will help you. Take care. Thanks.
