What Is The Treatment For Left Eye Infection During Pregnancy?

Hi, I am 12 weeks pregnant and Have got this weird left eye infection for last 3 days. Not sure if it's bacterial or virul and but i feel lot of stinging feeling inside the eye and eye is very sore and swollen. When I close my eyes for 30mins or so, they stick together. My GP gave me Gentamycin which I took 4 drops since yesterday. But am scared that it may affect my baby. is it true that first 16 weeks, any antibiotic must be avoided.
