Hi, Welcome to HCM. White discharge in a young female could be due to a physiological or a pathological issue. Pathological may be due to STD or Non STD causes. White discharge associated with intense itching could be due to an yeast infection. The discharge may be curdy or watery. Yeast infection can be confirmed by laboratory investigations on the vaginal discharge. Treatment can be planned by the outcome of the results on the vaginal discharge investigations. If yeast is confirmed appropriate anti-fungal oral tablets and topical creams for 3-4 weeks with a sexual abstinence will clear the infection. If necessary your husband also has to be examined and treated simultaneously. Diabetes, prolonged antibiotics and steroid and other immuno-suppressive drugs may predispose an yeast infection. Consult your physician and he/she will guide you better. Dr S.Murugan
