Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Swelling and pain secondary to finger getting smashed, most likely suggest soft tissue injury (muscle and fascia).

I would suggest that she does hot compresses, 2-3 times daily.

An OTC pain killer e,g ibuprofen twice or thrice daily, would help in reducing the pain and inflammation. However, I would suggest that you consult an orthopedician. He/She might want to get an X-Ray of the affected area to look for any possible fracture

regards
