What Is The Treatment For Muscle Spams And Numbness In The Arms And Legs?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...Hi there,

A couple of weeks ago I called NHS 24 because I had a strange, heavy feeling in my left arm and leg. I also had some muscle spasms and numbness in my face on the left side which I found difficult to describe. I was told to go to an out of hours doctor at a local hospital who did a physical test on me and found nothing strange. He then sent me to the casualty unit where I was put through the same tests by another doctor.

I was kept in hospital for almost a week to undergo a series of tests. I firstly had a CT scan and blood test, which came back as normal. They then put me in for an MRI, which showed that I had several (not sure of exact numbers) lesions throughout the white matter of my brain. They said this is probably significant due to my age (24).

I was told that this could possibly be MS or Vasculitis and had more tests, including a lumbar puncture, to assist in my diagnosis.

Yesterday, my doctor phoned to say that the LP results came back within normal range. She also said that whilst this doesn't 'rule out' MS, 95% of people with MS have O-bands (?) showing in their LP results. She had spoken to a neurologist and they said that these results were 'very reassuring'. I have tested negative for Vasculitis along with this.

I am aware that MS is still a possibility and that it could take a very long time, and more MRIs to get a final diagnosis, but I am keen to look for other possibilties on what this could be.

I have a follow up appointment in two weeks to go over my results in full and then with the neurology department in a specialist hospital. I am overwhelmed by how well and quickly I have been treated and have complete trust in the doctors but is there any other tests I should push for?

I have had a look on the net and the only other option I can see is coaliac/celiac disease. Can you suggest anything else?

Many thanks for any advice.
