What Is The Treatment For Non-healing Abscess In Buttock Despite Using Neosporin?
Hello. I have an abscess that has developed under my left buttock, where the buttock and thigh meet. It has been 5 days now and it is incredibly painful. It is also warm and the pain seems to be spreading. However, I do not see a white/yellow "center" or a "head". I have been using a warm compress on it for days. Just now, after a warm bath and a shower, I was drying myself off and I guess something opened up and I began to bleed. I thought it was the natural process of the abscess draining, so I drained it until nothing came out. I applied Neosporin on it afterwards. However, it is still very firm and the pain remains the same, if not worse. Please help. Should I be going to the Emergency Room?
I would keep a possibility of furuncle with cellulitis.
If i was you treating doctor i would have asked you to take an oral antibiotic for a week (penicillin group e.g Amoxycillin in combination with clavulanic acid).
Topical antibiotics like either mupirocin OR neosporin can be continued but sometimes alone they are not enough because they cannot reach the depth of infection, therefore the requirement for oral antibiotic.
An OTC pain killer like ibuprofen can be taken once or twice daily for pain relief.
take care regards
