Hello,

Thanks for choosing HCM forum.

Pyorrhea is gum infection caused either due to poor oral hygiene or due to nutritional deficiencies.

Get thorough scaling done.

Flap surgery is indicated in case of sever periodontitis.

Take plenty of fruits as well as vitamin c supplements.

Take care.

hi... thanks for the query...
well, because of no toothache in pyorrhea, patients usually don't go for the treatment, which leads to continuous progression of the disease, causing bone loss and loosening of teeth...
so you should go for proper scaling and root planing first... should get your radiographic analysis (OPG, IOPAs) done from dentist and should go for the blood tests and then gum surgery wherever it is required...
cost of flap surgeries ranges between Rs. 5000- Rs. 30000 per quadrant, depending on the condition requirement (bone grafts or membranes) of your dentition...

hello
pyorrhoea what we call it in general terms is gingivitis or periodontitis if it is associated with bleeding and bone loss
what i would suggest is that you pay a visit to your nearby dentist who will get the scaling and curretage done which is proper treatment for this
in the mean while you can do the following
1.luke warm saline rinses 6-8 times daily
2.use some gum astringent such as hiora or fitgum after every rinse on the gums
3.use antiseptic mouthwash like hexidine after breakfast and do not rinse after that for atleast 30 min
remember to brush and rinse after dinnner before going to bed

now for your other query about flap surgery
it is advisable when gingival recession is very advanced with bone loss and mobile tooth.Although flap surgery is a very good option but is advvisable in very advance case because of two reasons viz
1.very costly , may cost 1000-2000 rs per tooth in india
2.invasive procedure
so pay a visit to your dentist and he will advise you suitably
hope that helps

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Treatment of pyorrhea is necessary as it may progress in bone loss and loosening of teeth.
I would suggest you to visit the Dentist and get the checkup done. Take an OPG radiograph.
Go for complete mouth scaling and polshing.
If necessary go for periodontal flap surgeries.
Take lukewarm saline and antispetic mouthwash rinses.

Hope this helps out,

Regards....

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi,

Yes, flap surgery will cure the pyorrhea.

Pyorrhea is a condition characterized by bleeding gums. The best way to treat the Pyorrhea is by maintaining oral hygiene and scaling of teeth and root planing of the teeth to remove all the irritants ,this will help in resolving the symptoms followed by a course of antibiotic and analgesics.

I would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline wateror antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.

Regards.

hi,
As you detailed you have periodontal disease, so treatment for gum disease is scaling, root planing and polishing.
Your condition seems worse so consult dentist, follow prescription.
Maintain hygiene and use antiseptic mouthwash twice daily.
For mobile teeth, splinting is the treatment.
Take care

hello
pyorrhea is periodontitis. yes scaling is helpful but should be accompanied with root planing...
a 15 days of course of doxicycline 100mg 12 hourly for the first day followed by 24 hourly for next fourteen days plus metronidazole 400 mg 8 hourly and ibuprofen 400mg 12 hourly has to be started along with the treatment...
warm saline rinses 3-4 times a day will also be helpful..
maintain proper oral hygiene..
learn correct method of brushing teeth from your dentist...
mouth washes can also be used..

flap surgery is required in severe cases of periodontitis.. it is quite costlier than normal scaling .. also it is an invasive procedure...
regards

Dentist Dr. Benley George's  Response
Hi,
The treatment for your problem will be scaling and periodontal flap surgery. An OPG X-ray should be taken to determine the level of bone loss around all the teeth. Proper oral hygiene maintenance thereafter will resolve the problem. You also have not mentioned if you are suffering from any systemic problem like diabetis.
