What Is The Treatment For Sciatic Nerve Injury?

hi to all
am dr.mohammed khidhir from iraq my relative (hassan ali shakir) 17 years old had shells injury in the left thigh & abdomen, lapratomy made to him at the same time after
that he sufferd from left foot drop,EMG & MRI madse to him shows partial sciatic nerve injury, what your propable treatment??

Hi..
Partial sciatic nerve injury have good chance of recovery.
in this scenario Things to do-
1)Use foot drop splint in the night.
2)Start physiotherapy in the day time to regain functional power of the muscle, to prevent muscle atrophy and to keep the join supple.
3) prevent pressure sores on the affected limb
4)DO nerve conduction study every 3 months for 2 yrs to see for signs of improvement, if improvement present then continue physiotherapy.
5) no improvement even after physiotherapy for 2 yrs then surgical intervention is required.
Tendon transfer
depending on the functional requirement, tendon transfer is done to regain some amount of function.
