What Is The Treatment For Swelling In The Eye?

Hi, I am at an outdoor school and a student got hit in the eye with a shoe, swelling, hard to open. We have washed out and iced. Recommended to parents to pick up and see physician because student is complaining about black dots. Parent is wanting to wait, how urgent is it for him to get seen?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that you had a injury to the eye with shoe, following which you are having swelling of the eye. This is because of collection of blood in the layers of the skin of the eyelids as a result of impact of trauma.
This will decrease over a period of 3-6 weeks.
The treatment is by cold compression, which you are doing already and use of anti-inflammatory drugs.
However if any visual complaints like blurring of vision, double vision, floaters... are present it requires examination by a ophthalmologist.

Thank you
