What Is The Treatment For Swollen Throat?

Hi, I ve been smoking for 20 years. Im36 now. Im 6 feet, 155 pounds. I struggle with quitting a lot, so believe me I know I need to. However, as of a month ago my throat starts to swell in the back. If I stop for a day it goes away. I m just wondering if this is a new allergy or something far more serious. It definitely is curbing my cigarette consumption but should I see a doctor? Could this be cancerous. Like I said it s fine if I don t smoke. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The heat generated by cigarettes, cigars and pipes also dries out the throat and causes it to become sore and inflamed.
This makes it difficult to swallow and often causes coughing as well.
I suggest to drink liquids and use a throat spray with anti bacterial properties.
I also suggest to quit smoking if you can.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
