What Is The Treatment For The Sprain And Swelling In The Ankles?

My wife broke her ankle in two places one week ago. She currently is in a boot, swelling is now minimal, will be reexamined in two weeks by ortho surgeon. Her ankle has a burning sensation, what may be the cause and treatment in the meantime. Thank you
