Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I had what I believe was Dengue Fever about 18 months ago in China - classic symptoms. I just suffered a recurrence of those same symptoms, very severe but over a shorter period. The first time mosquitoes were involved, but the second time I do not recall being bitten, although I was in Mexico and the recurrence occurred 2 days later.
Does this sound like Dengue? Is it likely to be a recurrence of the same strain, or a different one?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vidya KR's Response
Hi,
Dengue or any other viral fever presents with similar features. So without serological test we cannot tell whether it is dengue or not. One typical feature of dengue is low platelet count hence prolonged bleeding time, severe myalgia with rashes and high grade fever. If these features are present then better to get investigated once.
the same strain cannot affect again.
Regards
