What Is The Treatment To Get Rid Of Tonsillitis?

hello, I am an 18 year old male and I recently had 2 cases of tonsillitis, 1 after the other. The first case lasted for about a week, I was on antibiotics and after a few days I was feeling about 90% better, I could swallow and eat regularly without much pain at all. I then smoked a cigarette and felt fine until the next morning where I was back to feeling horrible, couldn't swallow, open my mouth much and barely could speak. I'd like to know if the cigarette could have caused a relapse, and now nearly 2 weeks later i feel great except for the fact that still have a lot of mucus to spit out often, but I don't have anymore pain. Wondered what you thought, can I smoke again or no? I know it's bad but I'm just wondering.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your query relapse of infection occurs commonly when the previous infection was not completely resolved by antibiotics and the medications is stopped..
Other thing that seems causing recurrence in your case is Cigarette smoking..
Heat and chemicals generated in the cigarette smoke causes irritation and inflammation in an already irritated throat and tonsils and both the factors cause increasing the severity of infection..
Excessive mucous formation seems to be due to irritation of throat and nasal passages with cigarette..

So it is better to stop smoking atleast till you are perfectly fine..
If you stop permanently it will be further better..

Do warm saline gargles and steam inhalation..
For mucous you can take mucolytics like Ambroxol..

Hope this information helps..
