What Kind Of Sport Activities Could Be Done After Being Diagnosed With A Clot In Leg?
I am very athletic, age 57. Developed a blood clot in my lower leg a month ago. I am on blood thinner and my level is what it should be. I have cut my running down to 3 days a week and only 3 to 4 miles. I am swimming on my off days about 1 to 2 miles. Is my exercise going to kill me? What level of activity can I do?
Hi, I would advise running minimal till your clots get dissolved. However, leg clots have a low propensity to dislodge to the lungs and cause Pulmonary embolism but better to be safe than sorry. So, until it is proven that your clots have dissolved which can be done by a Color Doppler mode you should not participate in any activities involving the lower leg. Swimming would be a better option. Take care and let me know if there are other queries. Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
