Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Leads To Breathlessness And Fatigue With History Of Undergoing Bypass Surgeries?
I had 4 bypasses 2 1/2 years ago and have had shortness of breath off and on. I notice when I have very little energy it is worse. I take adderall XR 2 times day (ADD) , but past 4 months doesn t seem to help. Had appt. with primary doctor today for physical and see my cardiologist next month. Primary feels something could be going on with my arteries again because of the out of breath. I feel I would do OK if I lost 15 pounds. Told her I was wanting to starting walking up and down my yard which has a good slope and I know it will be hard at first. She said No! What do you think?
Shortness of breath could be a sign of heart failure. For this reason, I would recommend performing a cardiac ultrasound and NT probNP values in order to determine if you have heart failure. The next step to follow would be performing a dobutamine stress echo in order to see if there is presence of coronary artery disease. Only based on these tests we can come into a conclusion if you need limitations in your physical activity. In the meantime, I would recommend consulting with an dietitian in order to help you loose some pounds.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
