What Leads To Fainting After Severe Back Pain Caused Due To Strain?

Hi, I had a back strain/pull at work earlier and after the fact, I ended up fainting twice because of the pain I think. I went to Urgent care and they did X-rays and I m fine except for a sore back but for passing out they recommended going to ER. I didn t want to go since I m fine now, but when I called my DR., they said the same thing. My back is a little strained but shoud I have passed out twice and this never happened to where I fainted before.? I hurt my back the same way in the past but never have fainted. Should I go to ER for it or is this a one time deal for this kind of pain?

Hi,

Severe pain itself can cause fainting (vasovagal syncope). This is due to autonomic disturbance caused by bodies overreaction to a physical or emotional stress. If there was no further episodes of fainting after that, in my opinion, we need not worry now. Try taking simple analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen for 3-5 days to relieve the pain. In case pain is persisting, or further episodes of fainting occur, we can evaluate further.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
