What Medication Is Suggested For BP Level Of 126/91?
My grandson who will be 16 in October, had his football physical today. He had been so nervous because he knew he would be checked for hernia and when the lady took his blood pressure it was 126/91. She immediately recommended BP medication. Now he can practice with limitations. The boy is about 5 9 and weighs about 200 lb. he is muscled up for his sport. What do you think?
Hi welcome to him I understand your query and concern. Your son s blood pressure can be considered high normal that could be related to stress and anxiety. I advise to monitor his blood pressure and heart rate regularly. Also he needs drugs like Propranolol once daily for ten days.Avoid stress and anxiety. Get an ECG,2D Echo, lipid profile, chest x ray immediately to rule out any heart disease.Avoid fatty foods.Diet rich in protein and fiber is to be given.Get Treadmill test to look for any stress induced arrhythmia's.Also monitor his cardiac work up for every 3 months. Also get his blood pressure and heart rate monitored weekly.Report to emergency if he has symptoms like breathlessness, chest pain. Consult your cardiologist for expert management. Post your further queries if any, Thank you.
