What Medicine Should Be Taken At The Age Of 82 For Hypertension ?

I am detected as a hypertension patient since one year. i was advised to take repace 50 once a day. my bp was at 160/90 only. since a month i am advised two tablets, 1 morning &one evening..Now also it is at 140/90. I consulted another physician who advised me one tablet of Telista h per day instead of repace. I am 82 years of age & 78 kg/ 5ft 6inches.Please advise.

Hi,Alasinger,
Thanks for query,
Prescription for hypertension differs from doctor to doctor as they have got their own choice and confidence of medicines.
So have one doctor and have full confidence in him.
Your bp is not much and alarming.
Go for regular check up of bp.
ok and bye.

Hello alasinger;
welcome to HealthcareMagic
Since you are 82 yrs then you may be suffering from what we call essential hypertension that is hypertension coming with age.The tablet Repace 50 is Losartan potassium a medicine belonging to ACE inhibitor group and is used to control mild to moderate hypertension.Since your BP did not settle even after taking the medicine the other doctor has advised Telista H which is again from the same group with a added advantage of hydrochlorothaizide which is a mild diuretic.You can presently start on Telista H as there was probably no good response to Repace 50.Then keep a watch and measure the BP regularly to see if proper control is achieved.
Thanks
