What Pain In My Tailbone Be Related To Pilonidal Sinus Or Cyst?

my son is 16, 17 in two months. he is experiencing severe pain in the area of the tail bone. He fractured the tail bone three years ago. Has had minor complaints occasionally but for the last 3 days severe pain, hardly walking, cant sit, motrin no help. went to pediatrician who saw a small whole in the area of the top of the crease. suggested ortho spine guy look at him. Could this be a pilonidal sinus or cyst?
