What Precautions Should Be Taken After Having A Ligament Injury?

hi i have sprained my ankle and went to see doctor, he told me i am having ligament injury asked me to take complete rest for 1 week. Now after 3 days my swelling and pain has reduced. How much precaution should I take now, means in terms of walking and climbing stairs because I work with the chidren and lot of walking is needed for that. I am planning to go back to work next week. What precautions shall i take?
