What Precautions Should Be Taken For Broken Vertebrae On The Spine?

My mom just fractured two of her vertebras. I am not sure which ones. They gave her a walker, pain meds and told her complete bed rest. I am wondering how long the back will hurt and what kind of care do we need to do to accommodate her during this time period..Will it heal? She is continually falling and this one was worse than the others. They live in an isolated area of Washington state and we are concerned..
