What Precautions Should Be Taken For Pseudomonas In A Wound On The Leg?
What precautions should we take , my mom is on hospice . She has pseudomonas in a leg wound . , along with pseudomonas in her knee replacement . They said she had to have an above the knee amputation , she refused . The doctors said this will kill her - thus , put her on hospice . We have small children. , and a cousin with COPD . What precautions should we take for our own protection?
Hi 7 Welcome. I am really sorry to know about your mom's health condition. She seems to have developed a drug resistant pseudomonas infection in her wound over the leg. First of all she must be treated to eradicate the pseudomonas infection by doing the culture and sensitivity of the discharge from her wound. Then based upon its report she should be given an appropriate antibiotic (s) for the eradication of the infection.
Secondly, since this is a highly contagious disease which can spread though direct contact, the house hold contacts or family members should avoid hand shaking, use face masks while visiting her, do not use her bed or clothes, etc.
Hope the preventive measures suggested above would be useful. Wishing your mom a very speedy recovery. Regards.
