What Should I Do If I Have Severe Throat Pain And Difficulty Swallowing Days After A Pill Got Stuck?

A couple days ago my pill got stuck in my throat, I tried to gag it back up but it didn’t work. I ate bread, and I believe it went down then. However, it’s been a couple days, and it’s been hurting, but today I’ve had difficulty with eating because it’s extremely painful to swallow, even just my own spit. My guardian is refusing to take me to the ER because she believes that it’ll go away on its own. What should I do?

Hello,

Since the pain is worsening instead of improving, it could mean there is an injury, ulcer, or infection developing. Take semi liquid or liquid food. Do not take solid, spicy, hot food as it will trigger the irritation. As it hurts even to swallow saliva suggests more than a minor abrasion, scratch or swelling.

If the pill sat too long, it could cause a sore/ulcer. if swelling or scarring is happening, it can make swallowing harder (esophageal stricture). Get clinically examined by an ENT, for a thorough examination of your throat and esophagus at the earliest. If your guardian refuses, consider explaining that this could lead to serious complications if symptoms worsen.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
