What Should Be The Ideal GCT Levels During Pregnancy?
Hi doctor!! Am 25 weeks pregnant. I have gone through gct 75gms test. And results found as 122.3mg/dl. This test is done with no fasting and blood sample collected with 2hrs after breakfast.. Is this normal? The normal range in lab mentioned 70-120. During pregnancy 150
I understand you have a question about your glucose tolerance test while pregnant. You stated you took the 75 gram test, which checks your blood sugar 2 hours after taking a 75 gram glucose load.
As you said, you don't have to fast for this test. An abnormal 2 hour blood sugar level would be greater than 153 mg/dL, so your result is normal and you do not have gestational diabetes.
If there were no other concerns for gestational diabetes (like a previous high blood sugar or history of gestational diabetes), this is likely all the testing you will need.
The normal range you mentioned is probably for a fasting blood sugar, which means you would not have eaten anything in the past 8 hours. Sometimes they test for this before the GCT test, and sometimes not.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
