What To Do For A Cut In The Finger With A Glass?

Hello, About an hour ago I cut a flap on the side of my pointer finger by some glass. It s not very lager. I d guesstimate about 1/8-1/6 of an in long. It didn t gush an unbelievable about of blood. I instantly ran it under water (quickly) and applied pressure for about ten minutes. I then put antibacterial ointment on it and a butterfly bandaid. Since then I ve been continuing to apply pressure and keep my hand raised above my heart. However, I m unsure if this all is okay or if I should go get stitches. Thank you for your help! Carissa

Hello,

As per your case history of the traumatic lesion on the finger, my treatment advice is -
1. Avoid applying soap or antiseptic lotion like Dettol on that part.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an NSAID like ibuprofen for five to seven days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regard,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
