What To Do For The Bump In Head And Headache?

I was hit in the forehead with a decent sized piece of ice yesterday morning. Some whipped it at me from a short distance. There is currently a small bump there and I've been having on and off headaches ever since. Sometimes they turn into migrains. Should I be concerned?

Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The ice injury usually can not cause serious injury as it is itself brittle and breaks into pieces. Now that you are conscious, oriented and had only bump with headache, it means it was mild injury.

Still to be on safe side, rule out features of dangerous head injury like
: Vomiting
: bleed through ear/nose/mouth
: persistent headache not responding to medication
: seizures
: loss of consciousness for more than 5 min
: focal weakness

If you develop any of above sign within 72 hours of injury, consult ER urgently and get CT head to rule out any brain injury. Further treatment might be conservative or surgical depending upon diagnosis.

If no above features, then do not worry. You can
: Apply icepacks at bump side
: Use NSAID's like Diclofnac sodium to relieve pain and swelling
: Keep head at higher level than head to relieve pain
: If still no relief, consult doctor.

Hope it will help you. Thanks
