What To Do For The Pain In The Ankle Due To A Fall?

I fell down the stairs and my ankle is in a lot of pain. I plan on going to get an z ray. However I have a ankle monitor on the other foot. Do I need to get them to remove it, then get the x ray and then have them put it back on or can the doctor just put the lead bib over my foot.
