What To Do For The Throat To Heal Fast Because Of Eating Very Hot Food?

I took some mashed potatoes out of the microwave oven and immediately took a forkful which, instead of spitting out, I swallowed whole because it was red hot and to cool my throat in a panic I took a chunk of margarine down too but nothing helped. Today each time I eat it hurts but I m oniy having cold food and no hot drinks either. What a stupid thing I did but it was so hot I didn t have time to think except swallow fast.

Can understand your concern..

As per your complain burning of throat with hot food is painful but mostly does not create any serious problem and heals slowly by itself.

But if the burns are severe i.e. if there is severe pain which is persistent all the time, formation of ulcers in mouth and throat, any problem in breathing, appearance of brown or charred mucosa of mouth and throat needs immediate medical assistance as it can lead to infections and further deteriorate the condition..

If it is not so and there is only pain during swallowing you can do a following things to heal your burnt throat..

-Take all the food ( solid or liquid) after letting them cool..
-Avoid any hard,spicy,hot,sour food items..
-Drink plenty of cold water to keep hydrated as well as it will relieve your burning of throat and help in healing by reducing inflammation..
-You can suck ice cubes for relief..
-Taking a teaspoon of honey helps in healing the burn lesion..
-If you have pain in throat taking PARACETAMOL OR IBUPROFEN tablet is helpful in relieving pain..

But if the condition does not improve medical assistance should be taken..
