What To Do If Some Pus Is Left After Dressing The Wound?

My doctor did an I&D last Thursday and instructed my Care giver on packing and dressing the wound and moist heat compresses. There are still some blobs of pus but not much moisture to help them "escape". My next appointment with the Dr. is this Thursday. Is there a problem with waiting for follow=up?

Thank you,

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on your description, it is evident that I&D was performed to drain an abscess. Regular wound dressings are a must atleast every alternate day to control the underlying infection and prevent further pus formation. This is especially important, if you are a Diabetic patient.

Waiting for a week without regular wound inspection and dressing is not recommended. If you leave the wound unattended for a week, there is every possibility & chance for the infection to flare up.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
