Hello and thank you for using HCM. I carefully read you description and i got through you query. Don't worry, its nothing serious.
First of all, i must explain you that mitral valve prolaps its nothing to worry about. It is an anatomic variation of mitral valve leaflets. It doesn't mean that you have a pathology.
It is quite known in cardiology that people with mitral valve prolapse might experience heart palpitations.
This palpitations have different reasons. It might be a simple sinus tachycardia, when heart beats over 100 beat for minute.
It might be what we call extra-sitolic beats. These are electrical impulses generating from parts of the heart different from the normal sinus rhythm. This cause a palpitation and the sensation of a skiiped beat.
This rhythm issues generates from different reasons from simple emotional stress to patologyes like anemia, hyperthyroidism ect.
But my opinion as a cardiologist is that you have nothing to worry. They might be quite normal. Only if you feel that these symptom are interfering your daily live than do a simple electrocardiogram and a holter monitoring to see haw frequent are this rhythm issues.
I allsow recommend you to follow your self with echo-cardiogram during years to take care for this mitral valve prolaps. In some rare cases, this anatomic variation might lead to valve leakage, so just monitor it.
Hope I was helpful. Whish you good health. BEST REGARDS
