What Treatment Is Recommended For This Uterus Ultrasound Result?
Hi, my daughter, 50 years of age and a special child (developmentally delayed), sometimes, I think in the U.S. you call them exceptional children , has a posterior intramural myoma nodule measuring 1.70 x 1.72 cms in her uterus (results of transrectal/pelvic ultrasound done at Asian Hospital and Medical Center here at Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila. In her cervix, she has an echogenic mass protruding from the cervical os (considered a prolapsed endocervical polyp) acc to the physician (OB-Gyne Ultrasonologist). What further procedures do you think needs to be done?
The ultrasound shows two findings- a small muscular mass within the uterine wall- this need not be worried about, and need no treatment if asymptomatic.
The second finding is a cervical polyp (a flushy mass protruding from cervix). Polyps can cause menorrhagia, bleeding in between periods or vaginal discharge. Usually this is removed even if asymptomatic and is sent to lab for pathology testing, because of possibility of neoplastic changes within (though very rarely). Your gynecologist will discuss in detail with you.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
