Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have several (3 - 4) bowel movements during the day. this has developed over time. A medical doctor said that the muscles in my bowels are slowing down due to my age, 76 yrs. I had a prostatectomy in 1998 which, I believe, causes me to need to quickly need to find a toilet. A practical result is I hesitate to travel, since I may not locate a toilet quickly overseas. Had mild diverticulitis attack last August and December of 2014, with Cefdinir last December. A scan confirmed diverticulosis. What type doctor should I see next? Would travel to Cleveland clinic or Mayo Clinic improve chances of successful result?
The diverticulosis is an inflammation of the pre-existing diverticula of the colon. As per my clinical experience, the diverticular disorder is a common occurrence in old age population due to variety of factors such as: - Chronic constipation - Weakness of the colonic wall - Lack of fiber intake in diet
The diverticulosis is best managed with gastro-surgeon consultant which may include GI specific antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, flora support, diet care.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
