What Type Of Surgery Is Recommended For A Knee Injury?

My husband was in a car accident a year ago and he hurt his knee, it's been hurting him badly ever since. The doctor said that he was going to perform a surgery on him that is often performed on athletes who have sports injuries to the knee. I didn't go with him to the appt. and he doesnt speak verry good english, so he didnt understand verry well. would you happen to know what type of surgery we are looking at?
