What Will Be The Effect Of Accidental Ingestion Of Xanax?

My husband found his bottle of xanax of the floor and some of the pills fell on the floor and we're worried that our 15mo old may have gotten them. She has seemed very crabby and tired the last couple of hours and now is asleep. What are some signs we should look for and what do we do?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Xanax is alprazolam and the drug is one of commonly used benzodiazepine drug. The drug is relatively safe drug and it is not associated with any serious side effects. Even doses of 20-30 times the normal prescribed doses are not lethal though toxic levels can result in severe sedation, lethargy, sleepiness etc. Some individuals may develop respiratory depression in very high doses. So even if your daughter has accidentally consumed Alprax still in my opinion there is no severe risk to her heath. Try to keep a watch on her behaviour and her activity. If any signs of respiratory depression develop please take her to a doctor. In my opinion there is no severe risk to her health.

Hope this helps you. Thanks and Take care
