What Will Happen If One Does Not Have Surgery For A Fractured Finger?

snowblower accident cause distal-phalanx-fracture of middle and ring finger, plus severe laceration. Scheduled for sugery to have pins inserted. Question - what if i dont have surgery and just allow fingertips to heal naturally ? do i reaaly need the tips of those two fingers to function fairly normally ?
