What Would Cause High Heart Rate And Low Oxygen Levels?

What would cause high heart rate about 130 and low oxygen of about 74 when up and moving, I hold my own while sitting. Both heart doc and lung doc says it’s probably my weight and it’s around 285. My free t 4 is at critical and the thyroid stimulating hormone is ok. I’ve had thyroid removed because of cancer. I’m to see a endocrinologist in about 6weeks.

Hi,

Yes, I agree with your doctors. Your body weight might be the reason for rapid heart rate and low oxygen saturation. This is called hypoventilation syndrome. A person with high body weight has limited breath depth which causes decreased oxygen level in the blood. In order to deliver enough oxygen to the organ and tissues, the heart beats faster.

Please, consult with your endocrinologist and try to normalize body weight.

Hi,

High heart rate is called tachycardia. If this is sinus tachycardia then it is physiological and not the disease. It can be due to endocrine dysfunction, ventricular tachycardia, infection, other pathologies, all that needs differentiation. If no specific symptoms are there then it could due no reason. If you keep on checking your pulse, it may not give you exact reading. If pulse reading taken by a physician then the values can be taken for granted.
