What's Causing Pain In The Region Between The Right Breasts & Waist A Week After Hysterectomy?

I am one week post-op hysterectomy and about 2 days ago I began having pain on my right side from just beneath my breasts to top of waist. Even though the whole region hurts I do have one particular spot (about 6-8 inches in diameter just around the side toward the front about 2-3 inches above waist) that is significantly more painful. While I had some Percocet (unable to take NSAID's) immediately after surgery when it first began I had no Rx meds. My doctor gave me some Tylenol 3 and that helped somewhat at first. Now, however it's doing nothing. Since this is a 3 day weekend I am not sure whether or not to go to ER. It really is extremely painful and really feels that something is going on and this is not normal post-op pain. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
The possible causes for your problem are:
-Infection of the internal surgical wounds.
-Sometimes during hysterectomy, ovaries can be retained.
Later problems like ovarian cysts, tuboovarian masses etc can develop.
-Other surgical problems like apendicular pathology etc.
As the pain is severe, better to consult gynecologist once and get examined.
Go for ultrasound once.
Ultrasound helps in finding out the possible causes of the problem.
Depending on the findings further management can be planned.
In case of pelvic infection, antibiotic course, anti inflammatory and analgesic drugs can help in treating the problem.
Take care.
