Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Efexor is the brand name for Venlaflaxine which is an antidepressant that studies show can be used in pregnancy. It is more of the risk towards the end of the pregnancy as it is thought to increase hemorrhage risk after delivery. If you are withdrawing from Efexor you can conceive any time (it does not affect the pregnancy rates) and it is safe if you get pregnant while on it because the most of the risks are towards the end of pregnancy.
It is important to mention though that most of the drugs are recommended to be stopped before pregnancy to be on the safe side so if you are free from its use it is safer but even if you conceive while you are withdrawing the risk for side effects to the pregnancy are minimal.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
