When Can One Resume Normal Activity After Braces Removal Used For Patella Fracture?

I am due to have a brace removed hopefully at six week check up for non surgical patella fracture. What are the chances of me being able to drive a vehicle once brace comes off if all is well. I have no pain at all and am weight bearing without use of any aids

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The bone should be healed and then you may be able to start walking without crutches. Physical therapy continues for another two to four weeks after that, or until the patella has healed enough that you do not experience pain during low-impact physical activities.

Because immobilization can also weaken the muscles in the front of your thigh, exercises are critical to recovery. You may have to wait for one or two weeks. Physiotherapy should be continued after which day to day normal activities can be done.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
