When Can Stitches From Bottom Lip Be Removed?

Hello, I had my bottom lip stitched together last Tuesday, six days ago after a cycling accident. Is it okay in your opinion to remove them today? Also I went to the hospital this morning to have them removed. Last week they said it would be free, this morning they said they would charge me. I m pissed off and want to remove them myself at home now.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern. As per your query your have symptoms of stitches on bottom lip and you want them to remove by yourself. Well it depends on type of stitches you have whether it is self absorbable or need to be cut. Usually it will take 7-10 days for lesion to heal and then stitches are cut and i would say to done it through medical professional only as chances of infection are there if you will do it yourself. Moreover scar formation could be there if not done properly. You need to take a proper course of antibiotics along with preventive measures for faster healing . Keep area dry and avoid any contamination with foreign agents. Avoid any hard cosmetics. If any scars will be there post suture removal apply hexilak silicone gel.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
