When Do Periods Begin After Stopping Birth Control Pills?

Hi, I stopped taking birth control about a year ago and have not had my cycle since then. I went to the doctor about two weeks ago, and the doctor told me that my cycle has to start on its own. The doctor also advised me to come back in six months if it hasn t started back. I just started taking vitamin A vitamins since they are good for the reproductive system and can help your cycle start back.
