When Do Periods Begin After Taking Folvite?

Hi, I am 34 and planning to have a baby. As suggested by doctor i took 5 mg folvite tablets twice a day since past 1 month. Normally i get my period in 35 days but this time it has been 45 days and still not having periods... I did pregnancy tests at home but they came as negative. What could have probably gone wrong?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pregnancy tests detect the HCG hormone, which is normally detectable by day 11 go 14 after conception. If the tests were done too early, may need to wait a few days and then repeat. Other causes of delayed period include:

(1) Emotional stress or illness
(2) Thyroid disease
(3) Physical illness
(4) High levels of a hormone called prolactin
(5) Polycystic ovarian syndrome
(6) Excess exercise
(7) Inadequate diet

If the tests are truly negative, may need hormone tests to find the cause of the delay.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
