When Is Abortion Appropriate?

Dear madam, My wife s pregnant of 40 days, now we dont want the child because of our economic problems (After 3 Months only i will join in Job) and ours s inter-caste love marriage, dont have support of both parents also. We both wanna abort the child. If it s so is there any problem will arise in future. Pls Guide us mam. Thank you With regards, RAJALINGAM.H

hi...you can go for a medical abortion(i.e drugs to induce abortion )at this point ..in which you would be given two drugs 36-48 hours apart and treatment is on OPD basis and you can return home.and bleeding happens for4-7 days ....it recommended for good results to maximum of 63 days of pregnancy.Prior requisite is to get an ultrasound scan to confirm the intra uterine pregnancy....it's effective in 95% cases....and has to be followed by a repeat scan after 15 days to confirm ..everything is passed and no bits /pieces are left.......Also if at all you fall in 5% case and it didn't work ..you may need a surgical option...or directly you can go for vacum aspiration ...a surgical procedure under local /general anaesthesia.
Regarding your query on problems in the future ,with the era of antibiotic cover and infection prevention...generally things happen smoothly...I feel if it is the first conception it's good to continue the pregnancy....go ahead to start the family...if things are manageable..
