When Should Metformin Dosage Be Resumed After A Nuclear Stress Test?

Hello, doctor. My question is: my husband had a nuclear stress test this morning. He ia. Type 2 diabetic and was off his usual metformin for 3 days prior to the test. How long should he wait to resume the medication? His blood sugar is 210 now. Thank you. Janna.

Hello,

Metformin is withheld prior to nuclear test because of possible kidney injury. You can go for a renal function test and if RFT is normal, you can restart metformin after fourty eight hours.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
