When Should A Tonsillectomy Be Done?

Whenever I get sick my tonsils are usually hit first. (Redness, swelling, pain, tonsil stones even when not ill) What are the conditions to be eligible for tonsillectomy? My left tonsil is very sore with no other symptoms. 14 days ago both were infected and very swollen.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
In case of frequent tonsils..that is At least seven episodes in the previous year, at least five episodes in each of the previous two years, or at least three episodes in each of the previous three years..tonsillectomy is indicated..
In most cases, tonsillectomy is performed when enlarged tonsillar tissue blocks (or obstructs) the airway and causes complications, such as snoring, difficulty breathing, and difficulty swallowing...
if you fit into above criteria..consult your ENT doctor and discuss about surgical options...good luck..take care...
