Pap smear should be done in all sexually active women starting at the age of 21 (Few recommend starting at age 18). Its a method to detect cervical cancer risk early. You should not wait till you get sick. Guidelines on frequency of screening vary—typically every three to five years for those who have not had previous abnormal smears. Getting vaccinated against HPV ( Cervical cancer vaccine ) is good option. Take care.
