When To Have A Dilation During Pregnancy?

Hello I'm 38 weeks pregnant with no dilation at all and my Dr. would like to induce on this Friday coming up or the following Monday...I'm a little hesitant because this is my first pregnancy and I'm not sure what I should do. I do have a history of high blood pressure but have had no problems with it during my pregnancy. I'm 22 years old. What do you think??

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
Usually in first pregnancy dilatation of cervix will occur at the time of labor pains.
Whereas in multies some amount of dilatation can be expected before onset of labor pains.
Labor can be induced due to different causes.

Hypertension sometimes can lead to complications like decreased growth of the baby, maternal pre-eclampsia etc.
Possibly that could be one cause for planning induction.
Usually by 38 weeks baby will attain the capacity to survive in extrauterine environment. So no need to worry.
You discuss regarding the cause to induce the labor with your doctor and follow her advice.
Take care.
